President Javier Milei greeted Buenos Aires Mayor Jorge Macri warmly during the July 9 Tedeum at the Metropolitan Cathedral in Buenos Aires. The gesture included hugs and congratulations on the birth of his son Vito.
Milei approached Macri twice before and after the religious ceremony. He greeted him with a hug upon arrival at the temple and repeated the gesture on the way out, while congratulating the family on the baby born in late April.
The scene marked a contrast with the May 2025 episode, when Milei avoided greeting Macri in the same place. Since then, both leaders have advanced agreements on revenue sharing and the transfer of labor justice.
The rapprochement occurs amid talks between La Libertad Avanza and the PRO ahead of the 2027 Buenos Aires elections. Macri has already confirmed his intention to seek reelection.
