Minister Marín orders probe into irregular salary increases

Minister Judith Marín ordered a summary investigation following complaints of irregularities at the Ministry of Women. The ministry staff association alleged salary increases without proper protocols and other management issues.

Minister Judith Marín of the Partido Social Cristiano responded on Saturday to complaints filed by the Asociación de Funcionarias y Funcionarios del Ministerio de la Mujer y la Equidad de Género. The group reported unauthorized salary increases and failures in supplier payments, among other issues.

Marín stated that she did not authorize the questioned administrative decisions and that some of the people involved are no longer part of the ministry. “I will not tolerate any bad practice. I have instructed to initiate a summary investigation to clarify the reported background”, she said.

The association filed the complaints with the Ministerio Público and the Contraloría. It criticized the lack of leadership under the new authorities and noted that officials appointed by former undersecretary Daniela Castro remain in their positions.
