The Committee of Ministers rejected claims against two investment projects on Monday and upheld their environmental permits. The projects have a combined budget of US$ 824 million.
The committee, made up of the ministers of Environment, Health, Economy, Agriculture, Energy and Mining, reviewed the Itahue Hualqui project from Mataquito Transmisora, worth US$ 324 million, and the Terminal de Cerros de Valparaíso TCVAL from Empresa Portuaria Valparaíso, worth US$ 500 million. Both retain their Environmental Qualification Resolutions after the claims were dismissed.
Environment Minister Francisca Toledo said the committee has reviewed 21 projects in nine sessions, representing a declared investment of more than US$ 12 billion. “This has allowed us to move forward strongly with the mandate given to us by President Kast,” she stated.
The executive director of the Environmental Evaluation Service, Arturo Farías, noted that seven projects are under review, all within legal deadlines. An Aguas Andinas project was withdrawn and another from the Ministry of Public Works was left pending for the next session.
