Neelima Azeem recently opened up about her divorce from ex-husband Pankaj Kapur in a podcast interview. She stated that marriages are meant to last, but differing lifestyles and long distances ended their relationship. Neelima has no regrets, as she has sons Shahid Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter.
Neelima Azeem and Pankaj Kapur married in 1979 but divorced in 1984. In Vicky Lalwani's podcast, Neelima explained that they were very different people. 'No one gets married to separate, right? Marriage is for staying together always,' she said. She added, 'I think we were just very different individuals. Marriage isn't just about actions or events. It's about where your mind is, what phase of life you're in. If those vibrations aren't on the same frequency, things just don't fit.'
Long distance was a key factor. Pankaj was in Mumbai, while Neelima stayed in Delhi with her parents. 'I think there was too much distance, because he was in Mumbai and I was in Delhi. And I was still the girl living with my parents in Delhi,' Neelima stated. Pankaj had asked her to move to Mumbai, but financially, shifting the family wasn't feasible. Neelima encouraged him to pursue his career there.
After the divorce, Pankaj married Supriya Pathak. Neelima, who was very young at the time of marriage, insists she has no regrets. 'I was so young, so handling all that on my young shoulders was too much. From every angle, I always say, maybe not everyone understands, but I have no regrets, because I have Shahid. Same for Ishaan, so no regrets.' This statement highlights the respectful separation of this prominent Hindi cinema couple.
