Palestino and Huachipato draw 2-2 in league's final round

The 2025 Primera División's last round started with a 2-2 draw between Palestino and Huachipato at La Cisterna Municipal Stadium. The match was the farewell for coach Lucas Bovaglio, who confirmed he will not lead the team in 2026. Huachipato fielded reserves ahead of their Copa Chile final.

On Friday night, Palestino and Huachipato played out an exciting 2-2 draw at La Cisterna Municipal Stadium, featuring its new artificial lighting, kicking off the final round of the 2025 National Championship. Palestino had already secured qualification for the Copa Sudamericana after defeating La Serena, while Huachipato, led by coach Jaime García, fielded an alternative lineup to rest starters for the Copa Chile final against Limache on Wednesday 10.

Huachipato took the lead in the 18th minute as Cris Martínez scored with a powerful shot from outside the box, beating goalkeeper Sebastián Salas, who was standing in for the operated Bryan 'Zanahoria' Pérez. Palestino leveled in first-half added time via an impeccable free kick from Joe Abrigo.

In the second half, Huachipato regained the advantage at the 82nd minute with a goal from Brayan Garrido, assisted by Mario Briceño. But in the 90+5th minute, Junior Arias headed in the definitive 2-2 equalizer. This leaves Palestino in fifth place with 49 points, subject to change by the end of the round. Huachipato sits ninth with 43 points and failed to overtake Colo Colo, who face Audax Italiano on Sunday.

Post-match, Argentine coach Lucas Bovaglio confirmed he will not continue leading Palestino in 2026. The round continues Saturday with matches like U. Católica vs. U. La Calera and U. de Chile vs. Iquique, and Sunday with Colo Colo vs. Audax Italiano, among others.
