La Chaîne Météo and Météo-France placed several departments including Paris and its suburbs on red heatwave alert Thursday, with maximum temperatures forecast between 36 and 40°C and possible peaks of 41-42°C.
Nine departments moved to red alert Friday according to Météo-France. The areas concerned include Paris, Hauts-de-Seine, Seine-Saint-Denis and Val-de-Marne.
Very high morning temperatures of 22 to 25°C accompany these maximums. The heatwave is expected to persist at least until July 14, according to Météo-France.
Traffic restrictions were announced Friday in Île-de-France due to a persistent ozone pollution episode. The maximum authorized speed will be lowered on roads and trucks over 3.5 tonnes must bypass Paris.
