The PGA Tour is considering a two-track schedule system that could divide its events into tiers with different field sizes. New CEO Brian Rolapp has discussed the idea with players during recent meetings. Some tournaments are now waiting to learn their placement in the proposed structure.
The discussions gained attention before the CJ Cup Byron Nelson teed off at TPC Craig Ranch in McKinney, Texas. Rolapp met with players at the Truist Championship two weeks ago and again on Tuesday to outline plans for 23 elevated events with 120-player fields and 20 other tournaments with 140-man fields. Players including Eric Cole noted that smaller fields in top events could reduce opportunities for others in the schedule.
