Power outages hit several regions of Colombia over the weekend

Unexpected power cuts struck Bogotá, Cundinamarca and the Eje Cafetero over the past weekend, leaving thousands of users without service and no immediate official explanation.

In Bogotá and nearby municipalities, Enel Colombia reported failures affecting 14 capital localities and areas of Cundinamarca such as Soacha and Mosquera. The cuts disrupted traffic lights and prompted user complaints on social media about outages lasting several hours.

In the Eje Cafetero, XM activated the automatic load shedding mechanism around 5:30 p.m. on Sunday. More than 17,000 rural users in Pereira were left without service for about 30 minutes.

CHEC confirmed interruptions at 5:26 p.m. in Manizales, La Dorada, Chinchiná and Dosquebradas. The company attributed the event to a condition in the National Interconnected System and noted that restoration was authorized at 7:10 p.m.
