Preventive prison for 68-year-old man over homicide in San Rafael

A 68-year-old man was charged with qualified homicide after fatally stabbing his 65-year-old friend in San Rafael, Maule Region. The victim's body was found tied up in a public street with multiple wounds. The court ordered preventive detention and a four-month investigation period.

On Sunday, in San Rafael commune, Maule Region, the body of Nivaldo Bravo Maldonado, 65, was discovered on Los Maitenes street. He was bound, with multiple stab wounds to the thorax and back, as well as blows to the face and head, according to prosecutor Rodrigo Pizarro from the Unit for Criminal Analysis and High Complexity (UNAAC).

The victim died in the home of his friend Manuel Garrido Silva, 68, during the early hours of that day while they were together. For reasons under investigation, Garrido inflicted the puncture wounds and fatal blows. He then dragged the body to the public street and left it there.

“Carabineros reported to the Flagrancy Prosecutor's Office that a person's body had appeared, which was bound and with multiple injuries in various parts of the body,” Pizarro explained. Security camera analysis identified the suspect, and evidence was found in his home, including blood in various areas, bloodstained clothing, the weapon used, and other garments with blood traces.

The head of the Homicide Brigade in Talca, Subprefect Rodrigo Burgos, stated that “both had been sharing before an aggression occurred that caused various puncture wounds to the victim, causing death at the scene”.

The Team Against Organized Crime and Homicides (ECOH) from the Maule Prosecutor's Office and the Homicide Brigade (BH) of the PDI led the investigation, resulting in Garrido's arrest. The Talca Guarantee Court ordered his preventive detention, considering flight risk and the severity of the offense.
