The independent film Rebuilding, directed by Max Walker-Silverman, arrives in theaters today following its premiere at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival. Starring Josh O’Connor, Lily LaTorre, Meghann Fahy, Kali Reis, and Amy Madigan, the movie explores themes of the past in the present. Accompanying the release is a new 17-track soundtrack album by longtime collaborators Jake Xerxes Fussell and James Elkington on Fat Possum Records.

Film Overview

Rebuilding marks the latest project from writer-director Max Walker-Silverman. The film premiered earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival and now expands to theaters on November 14, 2025. It features a cast including Josh O’Connor, known for roles in Challengers and The Crown; Lily LaTorre; Meghann Fahy from The White Lotus; Kali Reis; and Amy Madigan. The story weaves personal narratives against a backdrop where historical elements inform contemporary life, without veering into nostalgia.

Soundtrack Details

The soundtrack, titled Rebuilding, is composed by folk musicians Jake Xerxes Fussell and James Elkington, who have collaborated extensively. Released today via Fat Possum Records, the 17-track instrumental album draws on folkloric traditions to underscore the film's emotional depth. Walker-Silverman praised the score in a statement: “I could hear the cinema in it right away. [Fussell’s] music is rooted firmly in all the folkloric traditions I love but not at all nostalgic. And that was much like the film we were making; a story in which the past is all around but firmly of the here and now. And since so much of his music has no lyrics, Jake already understood the challenge of telling a story through instrumentation alone.”

The album's release aligns with the film's theatrical rollout, providing listeners a sonic companion to the on-screen experience. No specific tracklist details were provided, but the instrumental focus emphasizes narrative through sound.
