Senegal have parted ways with head coach Pape Thiaw after the national team exited the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the round of 32. The Senegal Football Federation confirmed the decision on July 11, 2026.
The federation acted after a review of the team's results in North America. Senegal lost their first two Group I matches to France and Norway before securing qualification with a 5-0 win. Their campaign ended against Belgium in Seattle, where they led 2-0 late in normal time but lost 3-2 after extra time.
A federation statement said the executive committee had decided to terminate Thiaw and his technical staff "in the best interests of Senegalese football." Thiaw had been appointed in December 2024.
Midfielder Pape Gueye publicly stated after the Belgium match that he would take a break from international duty while the current staff remained. The federation moved quickly to dismiss the coach amid the fallout.
