Sui blockchain deploys upgrade after three outages

The Sui blockchain suffered three mainnet halts over two days in late May. The incidents stemmed from a bug in the v1.72 release. The Sui Foundation has since deployed a major upgrade to resolve the issues.

The first outage began at roughly 7 a.m. PT on May 28 and lasted close to seven hours. It was triggered by an edge case in gas-charging logic when transactions used mixed payments involving a new address-balance feature. Validators crashed with an underflow error during insufficient-funds cancellations.

Sui went down three times in 48 hours because of gas calculation bugs and validator sync issues. The validator set is small enough that a single implementation bug can halt the entire chain - how do you build production apps on a network where consensus is still this fragile?

3 outage in 48hrs is brutal. Respect for admitting they knew the fix would crash it, at least they're honest. But honesty doesn't pay users gas fees or failed trades, sui's got the talent, now they need the discipline.
