Francisco Rodríguez Cisneros, subsecretary of Political and Social Development, confirmed the dismissal of Ofelio Romualdo Aguilar on Sunday in Chilpancingo. The police chief's exit follows a “protocol of attention” within measures to enhance security in Taxco, he explained.
Juan Andrés Vega Carranza was kidnapped days after his father, Juan Vega Arredondo, in a nearby location in Mexico State. Rodríguez Cisneros dismissed reports linking the dismissal to alleged deals with La Familia Michoacana for their release. “These are actions that form part of the protocols established to improve security in Taxco”, the official stated.
After reappearing alive, the mayor did not immediately return to the city hall, instead first showing up on social media. He gradually resumed duties and attended the Taxco Taco Festival on May 2.
Federal and state forces, including the Mexican Army, National Guard, and State Police, maintain a permanent deployment in the area through coordinated operations with Taxco de Alarcón's mayor.
