Tesla battery recycling volumes rose 20 percent in 2025

Tesla recycled over 14,000 metric tons of battery material last year, marking a 20 percent increase from 2024. The company said the recovered materials equate to resources for about 46,000 long-range battery packs.

Tesla reported the milestone in its 2025 Impact Report. The recycling took place through in-house processing at Gigafactories and work with third-party partners.

The company stated that all decommissioned battery packs are recycled with none sent to landfills. Critical metals such as lithium, nickel, cobalt, and copper are recovered for reuse in new production.

Tesla uses advanced hydrometallurgical processes that reach recovery rates up to 98 percent for key metals. This approach reduces energy use compared with older methods and supports a circular economy strategy that favors repairs and second-life uses before full recycling.
