Tesla delays FSD v14 release to Monday after bug fix
Tesla has postponed the release of its Full Self-Driving version 14 to Monday, October 6, following the discovery of a last-minute bug. CEO Elon Musk confirmed the delay on social media, noting that the extra time allowed the team to add a few more features. The update promises significant architectural improvements and enhanced driving capabilities.
Tesla's Full Self-Driving (FSD) software is set for a major update with version 14, now scheduled for release on Monday, October 6, 2025. Elon Musk announced the delay early Saturday on his social platform, explaining that a "last minute bug" pushed back the rollout from an earlier timeline mentioned on September 25. He added, "that gives us time to add a few more features," highlighting the opportunity to enhance the software during the fix.
This release comes after more than 300 days without a major architectural update to FSD. The new version builds on a neural network with a 10x increase in parameter count, representing a substantial leap in complexity and capability. Musk has previously described V14 as feeling "alive," underscoring its foundational changes.
Expected improvements include reduced strictness in driver monitoring, with strike forgiveness time cut from 7 days to 3.5 days. Other enhancements encompass seeing and avoiding potholes, significantly better parking lot navigation, improved finding of parking spaces and self-parking, better understanding of pickup and drop-off zones, enhanced lane selection and path planning, improved handling of edge cases like first responders or construction workers directing traffic, better management of high-density situations such as crowds or busy airport zones, and smoother, more confident driving overall.
Release notes from FSD v13.2.9 preview features like a larger FSD model, audio inputs for emergency vehicles, and reductions in false braking, which may appear in V14. For Cybertruck owners, V14 is anticipated to deliver significant updates, including the full suite of features like Smart Summon, addressing lags since the vehicle's launch nearly 10 months ago.
The rollout will begin with early-access influencers on Monday, followed by point releases to iron out issues. Wider availability for average customers is expected by late October. Subsequent versions include V14.1 in about two weeks for bug fixes and V14.2 later, which Musk says will feel more sentient in decision-making and smoothness.
