Tesla Cortex 2 at Giga Texas: First Half Set for April Activation

Building on initial Megapack installations last month, Tesla's Cortex 2 AI datacenter at Giga Texas is advancing rapidly, with the first 250MW portion expected to activate in April. Key for Optimus robot development, the site features progress on Megapack and chiller installations, including temporary units for accelerated startup, as confirmed by Elon Musk.

Tesla's Cortex 2 supercomputer at Giga Texas, a 500MW GPU cluster for Optimus humanoid robot training and production, is on track for partial operations soon. Following reports in February of around 150 Megapacks installed to power the facility, updates show just under half of the total Megapacks now in place.

Chiller system Part 1 is progressing, with fans #5 and #6 installed and 18 temporary chillers deployed to speed up activation. Part 2 construction is slated for spring and summer.

On March 7, 2026, Elon Musk confirmed: "First half of Cortex will be active next month," aligning with April startup for the initial 250MW section. The second 250MW portion follows by mid-2026.

This accelerated timeline supports Optimus ramp-up, including production at Fremont later in 2026, highlighting Tesla's integration of AI computing and energy storage for robotics.
