A 60-year-old man was seriously injured when a truck overturned at LKAB's industrial site in Kiruna on Saturday. He is employed by a contractor and is now being treated in intensive care in Kiruna. Police are investigating the accident.
A truck overturned around 1–2 p.m. on Saturday on Kiirunavaaravägen, a road leading to LKAB's mining operations in Kiruna. The driver, a 60-year-old man from Luleå municipality, was conscious when ambulance and rescue services arrived at the scene.
The man was taken to Kiruna hospital and is being treated in the intensive care unit with serious injuries. According to Region Norrbotten, his condition is serious, but police have received information that it is stable.
LKAB's press service confirms in an email that the man is employed by one of their contractors. "At 1 p.m., we received a call from security about a workplace accident at the industrial site in Kiruna where a truck had overturned above ground," they state. The accident will be reported and investigated according to routine.
Norrbotten police are investigating the incident to determine if anyone can be held responsible. According to SOS Alarm, it involved a ore truck.
