Two former Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers have been detained for eight days after being charged with abducting and robbing blogger Bravin Korir near Mbagathi Hospital. The incident occurred on July 17, 2025, with the suspects arrested on October 22 while hiding in Kitengela. Kibera Law Court granted police eight days for further investigations.
On July 17, 2025, blogger Bravin Korir was abducted outside Mbagathi Hospital by three masked men in a Honda Fit. They claimed to be DCI officers from Central Police Station. Korir was later found dumped by the roadside in Athi River.
Korir recounted his harrowing experience: 'As I was leaving Mbagathi at around 6:20am, I was confronted by three men who told me they were DCI officers from Central Police Station. They were driving a Honda Fit. Luckily, an employee of Mbagathi saw me being shoved into a car,' he said.
The two former DCI officers appeared at Kibera Law Court on October 23, 2025, charged with abducting and robbing Korir of an undisclosed amount. Principal Magistrate Daisy Mutai granted further investigations, stating: 'The investigating officer has not been able to establish where you live, so right now, they cannot know the physical place where you live. There are investigations they have not been able to finish.'
The suspects were arrested on October 22 during a raid in Kitengela, where they had been hiding from police. Officers recovered items suspected to be linked to a criminal network, including multiple vehicle registration number plates, seven mobile phones, a tear gas canister, ID cards, and a pair of handcuffs.
These items are believed to have been used in unlawful detentions or intimidation. The suspects had switched the car's registration numbers; the rear plates were fake, and they covered identifiers with black tape but forgot the one on the driver's seat. Korir held onto that information and reported it. The judge ordered them held for eight days as investigations continue.
