Tyler Seguin plays in 1,000th NHL game for Dallas Stars

Dallas Stars forward Tyler Seguin reached his 1,000th career NHL regular-season game on Thursday night against the Tampa Bay Lightning. The 33-year-old milestone marks him as the 410th player in league history to achieve it. Seguin will be honored in a pregame ceremony on December 13 against the Florida Panthers.

Tyler Seguin, selected second overall by the Boston Bruins in the 2010 NHL Draft, became the third player from that class to reach 1,000 games, joining Jeff Skinner and Cam Fowler. He is the 270th forward and one of 39 active players to hit the mark. Over his 16-year career, Seguin has recorded 363 goals and 451 assists for 814 points, leading his draft class in total points.

Seguin debuted on October 9, 2010, playing 203 regular-season games with Boston, where he helped the team win the 2011 Stanley Cup with seven playoff points (3 goals, 4 assists). He has since played 797 games with Dallas, accumulating 307 goals and 386 assists for 693 points, ranking fifth in franchise history for scoring. In his first season with the Stars in 2013-14, he posted a career-high 84 points (37 goals, 47 assists), finishing sixth in Hart Memorial Trophy voting. He was the first player in team history to record at least 60 points in each of his first six seasons with Dallas and notched 80 points (33 goals, 47 assists) in 2018-19.

Reflecting on the achievement, Seguin told NHL.com's Amalie Benjamin, “I’ve felt times of bliss with winning early, with having a daughter, with going from [being] this single, really confident kid to I think I was the oldest player on my team last night. It’s happened quick.” He added, “I think 1,000 games was never anything I really thought about much until the last few years of just the journey it’s been to get here, with the surgeries and the body and now feeling the healthiest I’ve been in years and about to hit this 1,000th game thing.”

Stars General Manager Jim Nill praised Seguin, saying, “We’re proud to have Tyler play his 1,000th game with the Dallas Stars. Reaching such a milestone is a testament to Tyler's work ethic, his resilience and his leadership on and off the ice. Our organization would like to congratulate Tyler, his wife Kate and daughter Wren.” A six-time NHL All-Star, Seguin has also earned international gold medals with Team Canada, including at the 2015 IIHF World Championship where he led in goals with nine.
