Ubisoft to close Winnipeg and Belgrade studios

Ubisoft plans to shutter two studios and restructure another, resulting in about 380 job losses. The moves mark the company's third round of layoffs this year.

Ubisoft Winnipeg and Ubisoft Belgrade will close as part of the restructuring. Winnipeg focused on support and tech work for the Anvil and Snowdrop engines, while Belgrade contributed to titles including Ghost Recon Wildlands, The Crew 2 and Skull and Bones.

Ubisoft Barcelona will now concentrate solely on Rainbow Six projects. The changes also affect the Global Publishing team and staff at Ubisoft Montreal, including members of the Rainbow Six Siege and Rainbow Six Siege Mobile teams.

Employees learned of the cuts in an internal meeting on Wednesday. This follows earlier layoffs at Red Storm Entertainment in March and the closure of the Halifax and Stockholm studios earlier in the year.

The decisions come after Ubisoft secured a €1.16 billion investment from Tencent last October to form Vantage Studios focused on major franchises.
