US embassy marks 70th anniversary of American Center Cairo

US Ambassador to Egypt Herro Mustafa Garg has marked the 70th anniversary of the American Center Cairo and launched America250. Established in 1955, the center serves as a bridge between Egyptians and Americans. The event was attended by Minister of Youth and Sports Ashraf Sobhy and Luxor Governor Abdel Muttalib Emara.

The celebration took place at the American Center in Cairo, where Ambassador Garg praised the center's role over seven decades in bringing Egyptians and Americans closer. For generations, it has offered Egyptians resources and programs fostering learning, entrepreneurship, and innovation, including English-language training and technology initiatives that help participants build skills, expand networks, and advance careers.

The center partners with key institutions such as the Egypt Society for Culture and Development (ESCD), Amideast, the American University in Cairo (AUC), Misr Public Library, and other local and international entities to sustain its mission and extend its reach nationwide.

"For 70 years, the American Center Cairo has brought Egyptians and Americans closer together," Ambassador Garg said at the ceremony. "And tonight, the ACC is the launchpad for our historic America250 campaign. We look forward to working closely with our Egyptian friends in the public and private sectors to celebrate American excellence and underscore the deep and abiding US-Egypt relationship in fields as diverse as trade, education, security and sports."

America250 highlights 250 years of American innovation, achievement, and values, while marking over a century of US-Egypt friendship and cooperation. Celebrations continue on December 5 with a joint US-Mexico-Canada event in Cairo for the 2026 FIFA World Cup draw, set for the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. On December 6, the US Embassy will open a new American Corner at Misr Public Library in Luxor—its first program hub in Upper Egypt—alongside a "Pop-Up USA" cultural and educational fair in front of Luxor Temple.
