The Deputy Lokayukta of Uttar Pradesh has sought a response from State Minister Somendra Tomar and his wife following a complaint alleging discrepancies between their declared income and asset growth.
The complaint was filed by social activist Amitabh Thakur, a former Indian Police Service officer. He cited affidavits from the 2017 and 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections showing the couple’s combined income at approximately ₹72 lakh. Their assets, however, increased by around ₹2.13 crore during the same period.
Thakur stated that Somendra Tomar reported income of ₹43 lakh while his wife reported ₹29 lakh. Asset growth stood at ₹1.85 crore for Tomar and ₹28 lakh for his wife. The activist called for an impartial inquiry into the sources of the difference.
The petition also requests investigation into land purchases by Shanti Niketan Trust, where Tomar serves as chairperson. The trust acquired parcels measuring about 47,000 square metres valued at ₹10.5 crore in Kayasth Mavandi village between January 2023 and April 2025. Three other trusts linked to Tomar were mentioned for further scrutiny.
