The US and Israel's military aggression against Iran at the end of February 2026 has raised doubts about the credibility of the Board of Peace (BoP). DPR member TB Hasanuddin stated that the attack proves the anti-peace nature of BoP leaders, while an international relations expert views it as a test for the global peace narrative. The Indonesian government is urged to take a firm stance and leverage its BoP membership for diplomacy.
The US and Israel's military strikes against the Islamic Republic of Iran began on February 28, 2026, when Israel launched an attack. US President Donald Trump stated that the US military had initiated major combat operations in Iran. One such strike involved seven rockets hitting Tehran, near the residence of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iran responded by launching rockets at Israel and targets in Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and Bahrain.
This aggression, according to Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) member TB Hasanuddin, proves international doubts about the Board of Peace (BoP), where the US and Israel are key leaders and members promoted for peace in Gaza, Palestine, and Israel. "From this incident (the attack on Iran), we become even more convinced and do not believe that BoP truly has a sincere mission for peace. What is happening now, the facts on the ground instead show an escalation of conflict (war) that will widen," Hasanuddin said in a press release on March 1, 2026.
Hasanuddin views the attack as an ambition to destroy Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's leadership by Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, potentially fueling the Middle East situation and hindering Palestinian peace. He urged the government under President Prabowo Subianto to issue an official stance rejecting aggression, in line with Indonesia's constitution supporting world peace. Indonesia's BoP membership should serve as a channel for diplomatic activism.
International relations expert Ahmad Khoirul Umam from Paramadina University sees the strike as sharpening the contradiction between BoP's stability rhetoric and military practice. "This attack on Iran sharpens the contradiction between stability rhetoric and military practice on the ground, while testing the credibility of the peace narrative through the Board of Peace (BoP)," he said. Umam calls for de-escalation by world powers and warns that indifference could lead to targets like Greenland, Canada, Europe, or Latin America. Indonesia's Foreign Ministry stated that Prabowo is ready to travel to Iran to facilitate dialogue for conducive security.
