Designated Hacienda Minister Miguel Gómez announced the first appointments to his team. Andrés Quevedo will serve as General Vice Minister and Juan Sebastián Betancur as Technical Vice Minister.
The appointments were announced on July 17, 2026, as a week of meetings in Washington with the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund concluded. Gómez confirmed the names while the incoming government transition advances.
Andrés Quevedo brings prior experience at the Ministry of Hacienda, where he served as deputy director from 2014 to 2018. He has led insurance projects backed by the World Bank and recently worked as a consultant for the International Finance Corporation.
Juan Sebastián Betancur is an economist from Universidad de los Andes with a master’s degree from the same institution and an MPA from Columbia University. He held roles including director general of Macroeconomic Policy from 2021 to 2022 and represented Colombia on the IMF Executive Board from 2022 to 2024.
