Catalan high court opens case against ERC deputy over fraudulent contracts in Altafulla

The Tribunal Superior de Justicia de Catalunya has opened a prevarication case against ERC deputy Joan Ignasi Elena and former ICV leader Joan Herrera over irregularities in contracts awarded by the Altafulla town hall.

The TSJC has accepted the case referred by the El Vendrell court against Elena, former interior minister, and Herrera over the alleged fraudulent use of minor contracts awarded to their firm Sinergia E.D.M.

According to the judicial ruling, the investigated politicians allegedly arranged extensions of an advisory contract without public notice, tender or required reports, for their own benefit and against public contracting rules.

The prosecution supported opening the case. The same court had already referred the investigation of former Altafulla mayor Félix Alonso, now a Comuns deputy in Congress, to the Supreme Court.
