Cyclones secure nine victories at Iowa State Classic

Iowa State athletes dominated the Iowa State Classic in Ames, Iowa, on February 6, 2026, securing nine event wins and seven top-10 program performances. In the standard weight throw, Nathan Rotherham won with 64-0 ¼ (19.51m), moving to No. 8 in program history, and Lucas Morrison placed second with a PR of 63-10 ½ (19.47m), debuting at No. 9. Freshman Kamari Brown earned second in the women's weight throw with a five-foot PR of 63-11 ½ (19.49m), securing No. 7 in Iowa State ranks.

Riyah Burns triumphed in the women's 60m hurdles final with 8.39, an all-time best placing her at No. 7 historically. Alec Carr won the men's hurdles in a season-best 7.80, close to his personal best. Brooklyn Sandvig ran 7.61 in the women's 60m final for second and a tie for No. 8 in program history. Karynne David took second in the 200m at 24.75, tying No. 10 all-time. Justin Gleason and Amari Laing won the long jumps with season-bests of 23-0 (7.01m) and 19-8 ¾ (6.01m), respectively.

Meanwhile, South Dakota State's Brandon Kampsen set a program record in the men's 800m. Iowa State next competes at the Valentine Invite and Tyson Invite on February 13-14.
