Director Sam Mendes has added several actors to the cast of his four-film project on The Beatles for Sony. New additions include Lucy Boynton, Harry Lawtey, Morfydd Clark and Farhan Akhtar in key roles. The films will debut in April 2028.
Sam Mendes is directing "The Beatles — A Four-Film Cinematic Event," a series of four separate movies, each from the perspective of one band member, that intersect to depict The Beatles' journey from Liverpool to their 1970 breakup. This project marks the first time Apple Corps Ltd. and The Beatles have granted full life story and music rights for a scripted film. Sony is financing and distributing the installments, set to premiere on the big screen in April 2028.
The latest casting announcements include Farhan Akhtar as influential Indian composer Ravi Shankar, Lucy Boynton—known from "Bohemian Rhapsody"—as British actress and Paul McCartney's girlfriend Jane Asher, Morfydd Clark from "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" as John Lennon's first wife Cynthia Lennon, and Harry Lawtey from "Industry" as the band's original bass guitarist Stuart Sutcliffe.
They join previously announced leads: Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney, Harris Dickinson as John Lennon, Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr, and Joseph Quinn as George Harrison. Supporting roles are filled by Saoirse Ronan as Linda McCartney, Anna Sawai as Yoko Ono, Aimee Lou Wood as Pattie Boyd, and Mia McKenna-Bruce as Maureen Starkey. James Norton portrays manager Brian Epstein, while Harry Lloyd plays producer George Martin.
Behind the camera, the team includes cinematographer Greig Fraser ("Dune"), editor Lee Smith ("Dunkirk"), production designers Stefania Cella, Mark Tildesley and Neal Callow, costume designer Sinéad Kidao, hair and makeup designer Naomi Donne, executive music producer Giles Martin, sound mixer Stuart Wilson, casting director Nina Gold, and executive producer/first assistant director Toby Hefferman.
