A man in his mid-20s has been shot dead at a restaurant in Eskilstuna. Police are investigating the incident as murder and searching for the perpetrator, who was reportedly seen fleeing on an e-scooter. No one has been arrested so far.
Police were alerted just after 5 p.m. on Monday to a food establishment in Nyfors, near Tunavallen in Eskilstuna, following reports of a suspected serious crime. A man in his mid-20s was found with serious gunshot wounds and was taken to hospital by ambulance. At 7:15 p.m., police announced that the man had died and that the charge had been upgraded to murder.
"The charge is now murder," said police spokesperson Mats Pettersson. He added: "We are currently working intensively on analyzing traces from the crime scene. We have no one detained, so the search is ongoing right now."
Police have set up cordons at the restaurant and are securing technical evidence, reviewing surveillance footage from the site and surrounding area, and interviewing witnesses. They have also begun door-to-door inquiries in the neighborhood to gather tips from residents. According to police, they are operating on the theory of a single perpetrator, and there is no immediate danger to the public.
According to reports to Eskilstuna-Kuriren, the perpetrator was seen fleeing the scene on an e-scooter. As of 9 p.m. on Monday, no one had been arrested, and the victim's relatives have been notified. Police urge witnesses to contact them with any information.
