President William Ruto has launched the Sh2 billion NextGen Youth Empowerment Programme to provide youth with training and jobs.
The programme is implemented in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the private sector. It aims to equip youth with on-the-job skills and experience required in the job market.
President Ruto said the government is investing in programmes linking education and employment. He said on-the-job training is not just temporary work but a bridge between learning and earning an income.
The government has recorded achievements such as employing 100,000 youth as teachers and training over 1.9 million in digital skills. This has contributed to the creation of 350,000 jobs in the sector.
