Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 voice pack DLC draws player criticism

Players of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 have expressed strong dissatisfaction with the game's first paid voice pack DLC, released alongside Patch 12. The $5 Chapter Voice Pack 1 promises 450 re-recorded voicelines and cosmetics for specific Space Marine Chapters, but many report it as incomplete and lacking key features. Steam reviews for the DLC currently rate it as Very Negative.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, released in 2024 by developer Saber Interactive and publisher Focus Entertainment, has enjoyed sustained success with ongoing post-launch support. Entering its second year, the game received Patch 12, which introduced new content including the Techmarine class, alongside the debut of premium DLC in the form of Chapter Voice Pack 1.

Priced at $5, the DLC offers 450 re-recorded voicelines and a unique Space Marine Head cosmetic for the Blood Angels, Space Wolves, and Black Templars chapters. It was positioned as an addition to the game's customization options for its shooter classes and weaponry. However, the release has sparked significant backlash from veteran players.

Steam reviews for the pack sit at Very Negative, with complaints centering on its perceived incompleteness. One reviewer stated, "These paid voices don't have as much voiced lines as the original classes, they lack banters and interact lines. Equipping these voices basically locks you into an inferior experience compared to original voices." Additional issues include missing helmet filters, new heads without animations, absent banter during missions, and level interactions that fail to trigger voice lines.

Another player called it "Nothing more than a cash grab," while a third described it as "Underbaked and frankly a scam," suggesting it should have been included in the second Year Pass. This marks the game's first major controversy amid its positive reception.

Saber Interactive confirmed a Year 2 roadmap last year, extending content through Q2 2026 with new maps, PvP arenas, and enemies. As of now, Focus Entertainment and Saber Interactive have not commented on the backlash. Meanwhile, development on Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 3 continues.
