A Haryana police inspector died and 13 people were injured when a swing ride collapsed at the Surajkund Crafts Mela in Faridabad on February 7, 2026. The incident unfolded around 6 p.m. on February 7, 2026, at the Surajkund International Atmanirbhar Craft Festival in Faridabad, where a high-thrill 'top spin' ride, also known as Tsunami, suddenly malfunctioned. This pendulum-style attraction, designed for adults, swings back and forth while rotating on its axis at speeds of 8-10 rounds per minute. As it carried 26 passengers, including women, one end broke loose, slamming into the ground amid the excited crowd, turning screams of thrill into panic.
Area in-charge Inspector Jagdish Prasad, posted at Palwal and on duty at the site, suffered fatal head injuries when the other end collapsed on him during rescue efforts. He was declared brought dead at the hospital. Deputy Commissioner Ayush Sinha informed that nine of the injured were admitted to a private hospital and four to the Civil Hospital. He noted that a committee conducted daily inspections of the rides at the venue.
An FIR has been filed against the vendor. Haryana Tourism Minister Arvind Sharma posted on X: "Directions have been issued for a thorough investigation of the entire incident and strict action against the culprits will be ensured. All the injured are being provided with the best possible medical treatment." Chief Minister Nayab Saini stated that the Haryana government is fully committed to extending all possible assistance to the injured and their families with utmost promptness and sensitivity.
