Onyx Coffee Lab in Rogers, Arkansas, has been ranked the top coffee shop in the world for 2026 by The World's 100 Best Coffee Shops list. This marks the first time an American cafe has claimed the leading position. The ranking combines public votes and expert opinions from industry professionals.
The World's 100 Best Coffee Shops list for 2026 selected Onyx Coffee Lab as number one from over 15,000 nominated cafes. The determination involved 30% public vote and 70% from 800 expert industry professionals. This is the first year an American cafe has taken the top spot, with the next U.S. entry, Arcane Estate Coffee in New York City, placing 12th.
Onyx Coffee Lab operates eight locations across Arkansas, with its headquarters in historic Downtown Rogers at 101 East Walnut Avenue. Visitors to the headquarters can observe the production process, including sourcing of raw green coffee beans, roasting, barista training, and a coffee bar. The site features a patio and seating for more than 100 guests. The interior offers a modern-yet-warm atmosphere with high ceilings, concrete, brick, smooth wood slats, and numerous plants.
In an Instagram post, Onyx Coffee Lab stated: "This recognition belongs to our team. The baristas, roasters, trainers, bakers, and support staff who approach their work with discipline, care, and professionalism every single day. Excellence in coffee requires knowledge, repetition, and intention. What truly defines us, however, is hospitality."
The cafe finished second in the global ranking the previous year. Its menu includes creative drinks such as the Raspberry Elderflower Flat White and Lemon Poppy Matcha, alongside classics like pour-over coffee from Onyx's own Rwanda Kanzu Station Natural beans, which feature notes of dried apricot, agave, cantaloupe, and bittersweet chocolate. Food options include pastries like Earl Grey blackberry croissants and breakfast sandwiches. The headquarters is open daily from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Coffee enthusiasts outside Arkansas can purchase Onyx's roasted beans online, including "Southern Weather" (light roast with milk chocolate, plum, candied walnut, and citrus notes) and "Monarch" (dark roast with dark chocolate, molasses, red wine, and dried berries).
