Sidama Region continues agricultural development efforts

Sidama Region administrator Desta Ledamo said the region will work with determination to ensure food sovereignty and increase farmers' benefits.

The 2018/19 Meher farming campaign program is underway in Hawassa City.

Desta Ledamo stated that agricultural development works that ensure food security and stabilize the market will continue to be strengthened. He added that focus will be placed on making the Meher crop successful alongside the Belg harvest.

Agriculture and Natural Resources Development Bureau head Memru Moke said more than 169 thousand hectares of land will be cultivated with various crops this Meher. Over 16.5 million quintals of production is expected and preparations are underway, according to Theodros Tadesse, director of digital technology and public relations at the administrator's office.
