Ethiopia harvests 1.3 billion quintals from 29 million hectares

Agriculture Minister Addis Arega announced that Ethiopia cultivated 29 million hectares and obtained 1.3 billion quintals of produce in the completed 2018 budget year.

Addis Ababa, July 12, 2018 (FMC). Officials from the Ministry of Agriculture and related institutions reviewed the performance of the agriculture sector for the 2018 budget year.

Addis Arega stated that 13 million hectares were cultivated using row planting, which boosted productivity. The sector generated 4.55 billion dollars in revenue, with coffee accounting for 3.1 billion dollars.

The government provided 80 billion birr in subsidies for fertilizers after addressing supply issues. Over 4.9 million animals were artificially inseminated in livestock development. In the Green Legacy initiative, more than 20 million people planted over 8 billion seedlings.
