Walt Disney Imagineering has filed a new permit for installing set elements in the former MuppetVision 3D theater at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, signaling progress on the Monstropolis land. The building will become 'The Glob,' hosting a theatrical show based on Pixar’s Monsters, Inc. This conversion is part of a larger expansion replacing the Muppet Courtyard with new attractions, including Disney’s first suspended coaster.

Walt Disney Imagineering filed a new permit around March 5, 2026, for the installation of new set elements inside the former MuppetVision 3D theater at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The permit lists Adirondack Scenic as the contractor and has a one-year expiration date, targeting completion by early March 2027. This step indicates that interior demolition is concluding, shifting focus to building themed sets for the space.

The theater is being repurposed into 'The Glob,' a venue for a Monsters, Inc. theatrical show. Early concept art named it 'The Monstro' with a marquee promising 'Late Night Screams,' but updated versions changed it to 'The Glob' inviting guests to 'Meet Monstropolis.' Rumors suggested a shift to a character meet-and-greet, but Disney confirmed plans remain for a full theater experience, not a walk-through interaction.

This work is part of the Monstropolis land expansion, transforming the former Muppet Courtyard area, which included MuppetVision 3D, PizzeRizzo restaurant, and other facilities. The land will feature Disney’s first suspended roller coaster, simulating the door vault chase with Mike and Sulley from the 2001 film. Construction photos from February 2026 show exterior modifications, including brick removal from the theater entrance and scaffolding around the facade, alongside foundational work for the coaster’s show building.

Previous permits from December 2024 involved Jon Richards Company for custom fabrication and Solotech for audio, lighting, and video systems. The project aligns with Hollywood Studios’ shift toward immersive cinematic worlds, similar to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. While no exact opening date is set, sources predict Monstropolis could debut in 2028 at the earliest.

Cosa dice la gente

Reactions on X to Disney Imagineering's permit for converting the MuppetVision 3D theater into 'The Glob' Monsters, Inc. show at Hollywood Studios are mixed. Disney news outlets shared the update neutrally with significant engagement. Muppet fans expressed heartbreak and criticism over losing the classic attraction. Some users welcomed the progress on Monstropolis land, viewing the Muppet area as outdated, while others appreciated preservation of elements like 3D glasses. Skepticism focused on whether fans wanted the change.
