Il Messico firma l'accordo globale modernizzato con l'Unione europea

Il 22 maggio 2026, il Messico e l'Unione europea hanno firmato l'Accordo globale modernizzato presso il Palazzo Nazionale, insieme a un accordo commerciale provvisorio che entrerà in vigore quasi immediatamente.

Il nuovo accordo sostituisce quello in vigore dal 2000 e copre il 99 percento dei beni scambiati a dazio zero. Include impegni vincolanti in materia di sviluppo sostenibile, cambiamenti climatici e diritti umani.

L'Unione europea ha annunciato 5 miliardi di euro per sostenere il Plan Mexico attraverso la strategia Global Gateway. Più di 45.000 aziende europee otterranno un accesso preferenziale al mercato messicano.

Il patto istituisce un tribunale permanente per gli investimenti con giudici nominati da entrambe le parti, procedimenti pubblici e una possibilità di appello. Questo sistema sostituisce il precedente meccanismo di arbitrato privato.

Il Messico e l'UE mantengono un commercio bilaterale superiore agli 86 miliardi di dollari nel 2025, con l'UE che si conferma il secondo maggiore investitore straniero nel Paese.
