Supersalud orders shock plan for four health providers amid complaint surge

The National Health Superintendency demanded that Nueva EPS, Salud Total, Sanitas and EPS Sura implement urgent measures to cut medical appointment delays after recording thousands of complaints in July.

The regulatory entity ordered the four health providers to execute a mandatory plan to decongest schedules, shorten waiting times and clear backlog cases. As of July 10, Nueva EPS recorded 8,328 PQRD, followed by Salud Total with 8,062, Sanitas with 7,576 and Sura with 7,546. Together they account for 55.32 % of the national total.

Juan David Duque, deputy superintendent for user protection, stated that timely appointment assignment is a patient right and an EPS duty. He called it unacceptable that users must turn to the Superintendency to receive care.

The agency warned that failure to comply will trigger inspection, oversight and control processes that may include administrative sanctions. It also announced permanent monitoring of complaints to ensure timely access to health services.
