Hidalgo anti-kidnapping chief investigated over alcohol party in offices

The Hidalgo state attorney general's office has opened an internal probe against Manuel García Guzmán, head of the Specialized Kidnapping Combat Unit, over an alleged alcohol party held inside government facilities.

The inquiry began after photos and videos of the gathering circulated on social media. The event involved investigative agents, prosecutors, forensic experts and administrative staff from the unit.

Francisco Fernández Hasbun, acting head of the PGJEH, confirmed the case was referred to the Internal Control Body to determine any administrative liabilities. He described the incident as “mal actuar” and said consequences would follow if irregularities are confirmed.

Fernández Hasbun noted that García Guzmán has not been removed from his post while the probe continues. He added that Governor Julio Menchaca Salazar is aware of the matter and that neither he nor the official will tolerate the situation.

Testimonies and evidence will be collected over the coming days to clarify the events and apply sanctions if warranted.
