Crews continue repainting the tallest tower of Cinderella Castle at Disney's Magic Kingdom, restoring its original gray and blue colors after the 50th anniversary makeover. Work focuses on the early morning hours to avoid park operations. The project has progressed significantly on multiple sides of the iconic structure.
The repainting of Cinderella Castle at Magic Kingdom is underway, with crews targeting the tallest tower on Thursday morning, March 5, 2026. Workers in boom lifts operated during the park's early opening hours, as observed on previous days including Friday and Monday.
The castle moat was drained last month to allow access for construction vehicles. A pair of crew members in the highest lift focused on the tallest tower, where much of the gold trim has been painted light gray. Painting has not yet started on the balcony from which Tinker Bell flies during the nightly Happily Ever After fireworks. Although flights occur late at night and painting happens in the mornings, crews may delay work on the balcony to avoid any interference with the show.
Further down the tower, another crew member addressed the trimming. The spire at the very top has always been gold, while the rest of the trim was coated in gold as part of the castle's 50th anniversary updates in 2021. The original gray and blue color scheme from before that period, as seen in 2019 photos, is being restored.
Most of the west side of the castle is now gray, though a few pink walls remain. Work appears to have shifted toward the walls adjacent to the front. The pink accents, like the gold, were added for the anniversary. The current royal blue roofing is set to be replaced with a lighter blue matching the original shade.
The back of the castle is mostly gray, with only pink visible on the tallest tower. The northern half is fully gray, and since Monday, some pink has been removed from the southern half, showing visible progress.
This update follows earlier reports on the project's advancement, aiming to return the landmark to its pre-anniversary appearance.
