Paradox announces Race Day expansion for Cities: Skylines 1

Paradox Interactive has revealed Race Day, the first expansion for Cities: Skylines 1 in nearly two years. This sports-themed add-on allows players to create motor racing, running, and cycling courses in their cities. It launches on March 10 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC as part of the game's 11th anniversary celebrations.

Paradox Interactive announced Race Day, a new expansion for Cities: Skylines 1, developed in "close collaboration" with Tantalus Media. The studio is known for remasters and ports such as Luigi's Mansion 2 HD, Stellaris: Console Edition, and Age of Empires 3: Definitive Edition. Race Day provides tools to "transform their streets into thrilling motor racing, running, and cycling courses."

The expansion arrives on March 10 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, coinciding with Cities: Skylines' 11th anniversary. Additional content includes the Iconic Brutalism and Renewed History creator packs, the 8 Gear Radio music station, and a free update adding roadside fences and an Employment Info View for examining a city's workforce. These items are available separately or in a bundle priced at £20.15/€23.99/$23.99.

This release follows signs of renewed support for the original game after its roadmap concluded 18 months prior. It comes amid challenges for Cities: Skylines 2, which launched with issues two years ago and is now handled by Iceflake Studios, separate from original developer Colossal Order. Paradox confirmed ongoing work on the sequel, including a positively received February patch and an upcoming free update with the Iceflake Arena building, improved toggle zoning, and bug fixes.

For Cities: Skylines 2, new content creator packs—Office Evolution and City Stations—plus radio stations Smooth Vibes FM and Skyrail Radio, launch on March 18 in a £18.49/€21.99/$21.99 bundle. The console versions for Xbox Series X/S and PS5 remain in development, originally planned for 2023 alongside the PC release.

Paradox's efforts reflect broader issues, including delays for Prison Architect 2 and cancellation of Life by You.
