Sequim equestrian team secures multiple first-place wins

The Sequim Equestrian Team achieved several first-place finishes at a competition held at the Grays Harbor Fairgrounds from February 20 to 22, 2026. Coach Katie Newton commended the team's spirit, stating they demonstrated a supportive environment and 'having lots of fun together.' She particularly praised Sharpe, her niece, as a 'great example to the team' who has 'grown into a wonderful rider and horsewoman.' Newton also noted the inclusion of male rider Lucas Seelye, describing him as a 'great team player and a good sport to go along the plans the girls drum up.'

Detailed results included Lila Torey taking first in Huntseat Equitation, Sharpe placing third in Dressage, and the In-hand Obstacle Relay Team of Swanberg, Morris, Winters, and Torey finishing fifth. In Reining, Swanberg secured first and Sharpe seventh. Winters earned first in Saddle Seat Equitation, with Sharpe second. Other placements featured Morris first and Winters ninth in In-hand Trail, and the Team Versatility group of Swanberg, Kaija Johnson, Morris, and Torey in third.

Timed events saw Sharpe first in Keyhole and Seelye second in Individual Flags. In cattle events, the Team Sorting pair of Sharpe and Swanberg placed second. The team's next outing is scheduled for April 3-5, with state finals set for May 15-17.
