A man fled after fatally stabbing a woman he had dated on a street in Namyangju, near Seoul, on Saturday morning but was apprehended by police. The victim, who was under police protection, was found in cardiac arrest and later died in hospital. The suspect, a convicted ex-offender required to wear an electronic monitoring device, was caught shortly after destroying the device.
Police received a report around 9 a.m. on March 14 that a man in his 40s had stabbed a woman in her 30s in Namyangju, a city about 20 kilometers east of Seoul. The attack occurred on a street, where the suspect approached the victim in a car before stabbing her multiple times and fleeing the scene. The woman, who had previously dated the man and was under police protection, was found in cardiac arrest and transported to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The suspect is a convicted ex-offender mandated to wear an electronic ankle monitoring device, which he destroyed shortly after the stabbing. Officers apprehended him in the nearby county of Yangpyeong at 10:08 a.m. Police intend to investigate the man thoroughly and seek an arrest warrant.
