Cali mayor asks new government to prioritize city security

Mayor Alejandro Eder reiterated his request for national support to fight crime in Cali, linked to drug trafficking and illicit economies.

Eder, who has spent two and a half years requesting national government backing, said security problems exceed local capacities.

“One of the problems we have is the coca that is planted from the mountains of Jamundí, all of northern Cauca, flooding the city with drugs, flooding the city also with weapons,” he stated.

The mayor noted that the district administration continues actions with available resources and is ready to coordinate with the new administration, but stressed the need for more intelligence, resources and personnel.

These statements come after a police operation that captured 84 people linked to structures such as ‘Los de la R’ and ‘Los Piolos’.
