Ethiopia's Green Legacy Program advances with media support

Ethiopia's Green Legacy program is recording progress in tackling climate change effects and boosting forest cover. The Media Authority gathered media professionals in Addis Ababa to highlight their role. Its Director General described the initiative as a national agenda without political boundaries.

On July 16, 2018 EC, the Media Authority organized an event in Addis Ababa involving media professionals. Haimanot Zeleke, the authority's Director General, said the Green Legacy program is a common national agenda without political or different borders.

Media outlets have a responsibility to turn this agenda into the people's daily culture, Zeleke said. The media has played the lion's share in delivering the movement, raising awareness and strengthening public mobilization.

Ethiopia's success stems from public participation, the government's commitment to addition and media efforts, Zeleke said. Media must continue its leadership role by awakening, educating and monitoring the public to advance the initiative further.
