Ethiopia shares Green Legacy Program experience with global community

Ethiopia has planted more than 48 billion seedlings since 2011 through its Green Legacy Program, raising forest cover to 23.6 percent.

Addis Ababa, July 11, 2026. Ethiopia's Green Legacy Program has planted over 48 billion seedlings since 2011, reversing deforestation and contributing to climate goals.

Environment Protection Authority Director General Lelise Neme (Dr.) said the initiative restores ecosystems and reduces soil erosion.

Aberu Tena noted that the seedlings provide economic benefits beyond environmental protection. Preparations are underway to plant eight billion seedlings this year under the slogan Plant Hope.
