Kenya Defence Forces recovered and destroyed four IEDs in Lamu County during Operation Amani Boni, foiling suspected terror attacks. The devices were planted along major supply routes used by security personnel and civilians.
The Kenya Defence Forces detected one pressure plate IED during a route clearance patrol on a major supply route in Lamu County. Explosive Ordnance Disposal specialists later neutralised three additional devices in the Sarira area.
KDF stated that the explosives had been concealed to target both security forces and local communities. The military noted that terrorist groups have shifted to roadside bombs after sustained operations reduced their capacity for conventional attacks.
Operations under Operation Amani Boni continue with patrols and intelligence-driven missions. The recoveries come nearly a year after three KDF soldiers were killed by an IED on the Sakuri-Kiunga route.
