National Police Chief Listyo Sigit Prabowo expressed anger over the incident and promised uncompromising legal proceedings. Maluku Regional Police assured that the ethics trial and criminal investigation will proceed quickly and transparently.
The assault case involving Brimob member Bripda Masias Siahaya (Bripda MS) from Kompi 1 Batalyon C Pelopor occurred on Thursday, February 19, 2026, near Uningrat Campus in Tual City, Maluku. The victim, Madrasah Tsanawiyah student Arianto Tawakal (14), was riding a motorbike with his brother Nasri Karim when Bripda MS struck the victim's head with a helmet. As a result, Arianto fell and suffered a severe head injury, leading to bleeding from his nose and mouth. He was rushed to Karel Sadsuitubun Hospital but was pronounced dead on Friday, February 20, 2026. The brother sustained a broken right arm and remains under treatment.
Nasri Karim denied reports that they were involved in illegal street racing, stating the incident happened suddenly without warning. Bripda MS has been secured and detained at Polres Tual Detention Center since February 20, 2026. Maluku Regional Police, through Kapolda Irjen Pol Dadang Hartanto, expressed concern and condolences to the victim's family. The ethics trial is scheduled for Monday, February 23, 2026, at 2:00 PM WIT, targeting Dishonorable Discharge (PTDH) sanctions, processed quickly and transparently. The criminal process is handled by Polres Tual, with the case file targeted for submission to prosecutors on the following Tuesday or Wednesday.
National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo expressed his anger: “Like what the victim's family and the public feel, I am angry hearing about this incident. This clearly tarnishes the honor of the Brimob institution which should protect the public.” He ordered a thorough investigation and commensurate punishment. Deputy Chair of DPR RI's Commission III, Rano Alfath, urged full transparency: “We ask that this case be investigated thoroughly in a transparent and professional manner. Do not let any party try to cover up facts.” He also demanded protection for the victim's family from intimidation.
