Public service transport service reduces traffic accidents

Ethiopia's Ministry of Transport and Logistics states that the Public Service Transport Service in Addis Ababa plays a key role in reducing traffic accidents and ensuring road safety. Established 11 years ago, the service rewards drivers for adhering to traffic laws and maintaining accident-free records. It primarily serves government employees during work entry and exit hours.

The Public Service Transport Service (PST) in Addis Ababa serves as a vital institution in curbing traffic accidents. Founded 11 years ago under traffic law provisions, it incentivizes bus captains who comply with regulations and avoid incidents over extended periods through recognition and rewards.

Data Berho Hassan from the Ministry of Transport and Logistics noted, "The service is playing a crucial role in reducing traffic accidents and protecting road safety." Drivers are urged to recognize the societal and economic burdens of accidents and exercise due caution.

Director Tadios Lera explained, "The service's primary mission is to provide transportation for government workers during commute hours, and it has operated successfully over the past 11 years." Reports indicate that 75 percent of traffic accidents stem from driver negligence. The organization monitors and follows up on accidents to prevent them.

Drivers with no accidents for an entire year receive appreciation and motivation to improve. More than 330 bus captains accident-free for seven to nine years have been honored with awards and commendations. This initiative enhances overall traffic safety and benefits the community.
