Opposition parliamentarians walked out of the Chamber of Deputies Education Commission on July 22 after an attempt to close debate on the School Admission System reform.
The session grew tense when the government side rejected several opposition amendments. Deputy Valentina Becerra requested early closure of the debate even though about 35 amendments remained pending.
Deputies from the Communist Party, Frente Amplio, Socialist Party, Christian Democracy and Party of the People left the commission. They accused a lack of dialogue and rejection of their proposals without detailed review.
Emilia Schneider stated the government does not want to engage in dialogue and seeks to install discrimination. Nelson Venegas criticized the imposition of majorities without debate. Tamara Ramírez and Daniela Serrano added that the amendments were discarded without being read.
