The 38-year-old, who secured relay gold in Milan but faced individual disappointments, now aims for an individual medal at the 2027 Nordic World Ski Championships in Falun. She expressed renewed motivation despite initial post-Games frustration.
Astrid Oeyre Slind, a prominent Norwegian cross-country skier, announced her intention to persist in her professional career following two tough weeks marked by Olympic letdowns and a withdrawal from a major race. At the 2026 Winter Olympics, Slind contributed to Norway's victory in the relay event, earning team gold. However, she expressed frustration over the lack of an individual medal, particularly after a ski malfunction derailed her chances as the favorite in the 50km race.
The following week, shoulder pain forced her to retire from the Vasaloppet, a prestigious 90km event in Sweden. Reflecting on this period, Slind told NRK, “I had a bit of the blues after the Games.” Despite these setbacks, the 38-year-old has regained her drive and confirmed plans to compete through the 2027 Nordic World Ski Championships in Falun, Sweden.
Her primary goal is to secure an individual gold medal, with a focus on the classic 10km distance, which aligns well with her strengths. This decision comes after initial considerations of retirement, highlighting her determination to achieve a personal world title at age 39.
